Zomato will remove 4% employees out of total workforce

Food delivery platform Zomato has also started laying off employees. According to reports, Zomato has started laying off employees this week. As the company is striving to become cost-cutting and profitable in an increasingly challenging macro environment.
At least 100 employees across functions such as product, tech, catalogue and marketing have already been laid off, said people familiar with the matter. However, the supply chain employees are not affected. The company plans to lay off at least 4% of its employees from its total workforce. So far no statement has come from Zomato on this news.
About 3,800 employees currently work in the Gurugram-based company Zomato. Let us tell you that Zomato last laid off in 2020 when the company fired about 13% of the 4,320 staff i.e. more than 550 employees due to the slowdown in business due to the epidemic.
A company source said, “These roles had become redundant. Because these employees, mostly in mid-to-senior roles, were working when the product was being improved. It is not that the product work is over, but the employees are being fired.
Another source said that Deepinder Goyal, the founder and CEO of Zomato, had organized a town hall a few days back. Where he indicated that there would be job cuts in those functions which were not performing well. Sources said some of the account managers associated with the cloud kitchen have already been replaced.
The news of layoffs has now come to the fore after three top-level employees of the company submitted their resignations in the last three weeks. Zomato co-founder Mohit Gupta, new initiatives head Rahul Ganju and intercity head Siddharth Jewar had resigned citing stability concerns at the senior level management.
