WPL 2025: Mumbai Indians set a flurry of records against Gujarat Giants in the Eliminator
MIW vs GGW Records: In the Eliminator of the Women's Premier League, the Mumbai Indians women's team easily defeated Gujarat Giants and confirmed their place in the final.

The Eliminator match for the Women's Premier League 2025 was played on 13 March at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, wherein the Mumbai Indians Women won against the Gujarat Giants Women by 47 runs and grabbed the final position. In this match, the first to play was Mumbai and it scored 213 runs, against whom the Gujarat side was bowled for 166 runs in 19.2 overs. Hayley Matthews was awarded 'Player of the Match' for her exceptional performance. Mumbai Indians all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt established herself yet again in the playoffs. In this eliminator, she played an aggressive score of 77 runs off 41 balls and contributed 1/31 in bowling. Her performance has remained exceptional in the play-off history of this tournament.
In the 2023 Eliminator, she scored an unbeaten 72 off 38 against the UP Warriors, and in the final, an unbeaten 60 off 55 against Delhi Capitals. 23 runs off 17 against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2024 Eliminator and 77 runs against Gujarat in 2025 - these numbers speak about the consistency and the pressure-handling ability in big matches. She is now the most reliable player for Mumbai in the playoffs. Secondly, the Brabourne Stadium has become a solid fortress for the Mumbai Indians. Mumbai has won 6 out of 7 matches at Brabourne, which is equal to Delhi Capitals' record of M. Chinnaswamy Stadium (6 out of 8).
Apart from this, Mumbai has also won 5 out of 7 matches at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. This statistic shows that Mumbai's team knows how to use the ground and conditions best. Especially at Brabourne, their batting and bowling balance makes them dangerous. 7 matches have been played between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Giants in WPL so far, and Mumbai has won every time. This is the record for most wins against a single team. Apart from this, Mumbai has also won 5 out of 7 matches against UP Warriors, while Delhi Capitals have defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore 5 out of 7 times.
A unique record was also made in this match when eight different players hit at least one six each. This is the joint-highest record for most sixes hit by players in a single match in WPL history, equalling the RCB vs DC match in Bengaluru last year. Hayley Matthews (70 off 50 balls), Nat Sciver-Brunt, and Harmanpreet Kaur batted aggressively for Mumbai, while Danielle Gibson, Phoebe Litchfield, and Bharti Fulmali also played aerial shots for Gujarat.
The toss-and-chase game was also in the news this season. The team batting second won 15 of the first 17 matches of WPL 2025, but the team batting first won the last four matches. Mumbai continued this trend by batting first in this eliminator and won. With a win in the eliminator, Mumbai Indians Women will now take on Delhi Capitals in the final. This match will be a repeat of the final of the inaugural season (2023), in which Mumbai defeated Delhi to win the title. However, Delhi has defeated Mumbai twice this season, so an exciting battle is expected in the final.
