WPL 2024: RCB defeated Mumbai Indians by 5 runs, made it to the finals, Smriti Mandhana started crying on the field

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have created history by defeating Mumbai Indians by five runs in the eliminator match of the Women's Premier League (WPL). With this victory, RCB has made it to the finals of WPL for the first time. Star all-rounder Ellyse Perry performed brilliantly for RCB, first scoring a half-century of 66 runs and then also bowled brilliantly. Captain Smriti Mandhana became emotional about this historic victory of the team and had tears in her eyes.

Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Mathews of the Mumbai Indians opened the innings with 27 runs for the first wicket while chasing 136 runs. Haley Mathews scored 15 runs before being out. Perry then bowled Yastika Bhatia for 19 runs in the seventh over. Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain, and Net Sciver-Brent 23 had a productive inning that produced 33 runs. Sanjeevan Sajna was out after one run, and Pooja Vastrakar was out after four runs, but they were still very close to winning. Amanjot Kaur and Amelia Kar both had perfect records of 27 and one run, respectively, without losing. The Mumbai Indians lost the match by five runs in the final overs after managing to score only 130 runs for six wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Once again Ellyse Perry played an important role in Bengaluru's victory. Shreyanka Patil took two wickets for Royal Challengers Bangalore. Ellyse Perry, Sophie Molineau, Georgia Wareham and Sobhna Asha dismissed one batsman each.

Earlier, based on Ellyse Perry's half-century of 66 runs, Royal Challengers Bangalore had given the target of 136 runs to Mumbai Indians to win. Royal Challengers Bangalore Women won the toss and elected to bat first. Royal Challengers Bangalore had a very bad start and on the other hand, they lost the wicket of opener Sophie Devine for 20 runs in the second over.

After that captain Smriti Mandhana returned to the pavilion after scoring 10 runs. Richa Ghosh was out after scoring 14 runs, and Sophie Molineau was out after scoring 11 runs. There was a time when it seemed that Bengaluru would not be able to reach a respectable score. At such a time, Perry's half-century of 66 runs with the help of eight fours and one six in 50 balls and Georgia's useful innings of 18 not out took Bengaluru to a fightable score.

Disha Cassatt could not even open her account. Georgia remained unbeaten on 18 runs and Shreyank Patil remained unbeaten on three. Royal Challengers Bangalore could score only 135 runs for six wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. For Mumbai, Haley Mathews, Nate Sciver-Brunt and Saika Ishaq dismissed two batsmen each.
