Wife got murdered for not wearing burqa in Mumbai: Husband slit throat with a knife

A Muslim youth killed his Hindu wife by slitting her throat in Mumbai. Preliminary investigation revealed that the wife had refused to follow Muslim customs and wear a burqa at her in-laws' house. Iqbal Mohammad Sheikh, a resident of the Tilak Nagar area of Mumbai, had a love marriage with a 23-year-old Hindu girl named Rupali three years ago. They also have a two-year-old son.
After marriage, Rupali was being pressured to follow Muslim customs and wear the burqa in her in-laws' house. There was a fight between Iqbal and Rupali over this. Both were living separately for the last few months. The two used to talk on the phone only. During this too there were frequent quarrels.
Police said that the incident happened around 10 pm on Monday when Iqbal Ruthi had gone to convince his wife. During this, a quarrel started again between the two over Muslim customs. In anger, Rupali told about getting divorced. At first, Iqbal started persuading him by referring to his son, but when Rupali was adamant on the matter of divorce, Iqbal dragged Rupali to the street. There he slit his throat with a knife and fled.
Hearing Rupali's scream, people gathered there. After this, the police were informed, but by the time the police reached, Rupali was already dead. Police took Rupali's body into possession and sent it for postmortem. After this, the search for the accused started. Iqbal was arrested shortly after.
According to media reports, Rupali was Iqbal's second wife. Iqbal divorced his first wife, as he had no children. After this Iqbal had a love marriage with Rupali.
