What is the India series number?

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways started vehicle registration under the newly launched BH-series (Bharat-series) number plates for non-transport vehicles in September 2021 last year. If you register the 'BH Series' number only once, then they will not need to change it in other states.

Earlier as per Section 47 of the Motor Vehicle Act 1988, owners were allowed to keep their vehicle in another state (other than the state in which they are registered) for only 12 months. After this period the registration of the vehicle had to be transferred to the new state. However, with the BH Series, vehicle owners can travel anywhere across the country. This number plate will be valid across the country.

Central government officers for some jobs, including army personnel, have to move from state to state every 2-3 years, making it difficult to buy a new number every time. To eliminate this, BH series number plates have been introduced, which do not require fresh registration every time the owner moves to another state.

How to get BH Series Number Plate?

To get the BH series number plate, you have to apply online. Vehicles can be registered online by the dealer at the time of purchase through the VAHAN portal. After the completion of the registration process, the vehicle owner will get the BH series number plate. Further, to apply, firstly login to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways vehicle portal.
