WFI office removed from Brij Bhushan's house, address changed to wrestling association's office
After the Sports Ministry objected to the office of the Wrestling Federation, which was located at the residence of former president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the office's address has now been changed.
The newly appointed ad-hoc committee for the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) on Friday shifted the WFI office out of the residence of former president and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh here. The Sports Ministry had last Sunday suspended the WFI's managing committee for violation of rules, and also took exception to the federation's office being in the official residence of an Uttar Pradesh MP.
Those who went to the WFI office at the residence of Brijbhushan Sharan Singh on Friday saw a notice pasted there informing them that the federation's office had been shifted to the new premises. "The Wrestling Association of India has been shifted to the new address, 101, Hari Nagar near Ashram Chowk," the circular reads.
The recently elected WFI panel, led by Sanjay Singh, a well-known aide of the former president, has regularly claimed that Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has no connection with the association. But the fact that the WFI office is being run from Brij Bhushan's residence was pointed out by the Sports Ministry, which also claimed that the said premises were where the player's alleged sexual assault took place.
The ministry also indicated that the fact that the WFI office is being run from Brij Bhushan's residence also proves that the WFI is working under the "complete control of former WFI office-bearers". The removal of Brij Bhushan's office from the WFI office appears to be an attempt to further isolate the Sangh from his influence.
