Chief Justice DY Chandrachud on Saturday said all parties should be proud of the efforts shown in Parliament during the passage of the Women's Reservation Bill. Addressing the inaugural session of the International Lawyers Conference organized by the Bar Council of India, he said such a spirit was visible during the framing of the Constitution, when members, rising above partisan and conflicting ideologies, came together to draft the Constitution.
He said that institutional cooperation is the way to facilitate access to justice. He highlighted the need for engagement between the nation, institutions, and individuals. The CJI said that while the judiciary upholds the rule of law, the Bar plays an important role. Lawyers help in business efficiency and cross-border transactions and contribute to national welfare and economic development.
He emphasized that now is the time for lawyers to reach out across the world in a global arena. He informed that the Central Government has allocated a budget of more than Rs 7,000 crore for the third phase of the e-court project. Justice Chandrachud said that the constitutional structure may make the executive and the judiciary stand at different ends but the objective of both is the same - the progress and prosperity of the nation.
Attorney General R Venkataramani on Saturday said internet media is a "borderless world of communication". It connects the world but distorts and ignores moral needs. Venkataramani said there is a need to talk about the impact of internet media on justice delivery and how it can bear that pressure.
