Vishvas News provided fact-checking training to journalists in Jaipur as a "SURE" method of avoiding fake news
To avoid fake news and digital fraud, Jagran New Media's fact-checking team Vishvas News was in Rajasthan's capital Jaipur under its prestigious media literacy program Sach Ke Saathi. There they told the ways to avoid any kind of lies, rumors, and fake information. The team told how people can avoid digital fraud through SURE.
Vishvas News, which is Jagran New Media's fact-checking team was in Jaipur, capital of Rajasthan for its prestigious media literacy program 'Sach Ke Saathi'. Journalists were given fact-checking training in two prestigious newsrooms in the city on Friday.
Journalists of Samachar Jagat and Mahanagar Times newspaper published from Jaipur participated enthusiastically in this media literacy program. In the program, journalists were told in detail about topics like media literacy, why fact-checking is important, and how to avoid financial fraud.
The program was addressed by Jagran New Media's Associate Editor Ashish Maharshi and Deputy Editor Devika Mehta. Many journalists including Tarun Rawal of Samachar Jagah, and Manish Godha of Mahanagar Times participated in the program.
Starting the training in both the newsrooms, Ashish Maharshi told in detail about Vishvas News's leading media literacy program 'Sach Ke Saathi'. He said that Vishvas News' media literacy program aims to reach every section of society and save them from fake posts going viral on social media. Today, everyone is spending a lot of time on smartphones. In such a situation, they can be easily targeted through fake posts or fraudulent links.
While interacting with the participants, Devika Mehta talked about the SURE concept. He said that the role of SURE is important in protecting from any kind of lies, rumors, and fake information. If any information comes to you, then first of all get insured with SURE.
S here means See which means first look at any information carefully. Similarly, U means - Understand. Then comes R, R means Recheck. Similarly, E means Execute, that is, only after this, forward or use any information.
He gave information about the deepfake videos and pictures being created with the help of tools, explaining the disadvantages and advantages of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Giving examples of many deepfake videos, he said that nowadays many such fake videos are being made for the promotion of a product.
Observe the videos thoroughly to find out such videos. Some defects can be seen in them. For instance, facial expressions will appear artificial, and the shape or number of fingers will be strange.
During the training, Devika Mehta shared a quite extensive session on using fact-checking tools and generative AI. This, if you find something suspicious, opens up the search in Google with the keywords to help you find the information back to their actual source.
It will let you in on the truth of the viral message. Also, Ashish Maharshi and Devika Mehta taught how to check viral pictures with the help of the Google Lens tool through examples.
