'Virat Kohli should not have got the Player of the Match award', former Indian batsman raised questions on the decision

In the 2024 T20 World Cup final, the Indian cricket team defeated South Africa. Team India batter Virat Kohli's bat was on fire during this match. He scored 76 runs and was named Man of the Match for this performance. However, a former Indian batsman and senior commentator have expressed concerns about this. This individual thinks Kohli should not have received this prize.

During the World Cup, Kohli's bat remained silent. However, Kohli's bat shone in the final, as he played an innings that propelled Team India to victory. As a result, Kohli was selected as the Player of the Match. Sanjay Manjrekar, on the other hand, believes Kohli didn't earn it.

While talking to ESPNcricinfo, Manjrekar said that Kohli's innings were slow due to which Hardik Pandya got to play fewer balls. Manjrekar said, "Because of that innings, Hardik Pandya, who was their most dangerous batsman, got a chance to play only two balls. So I think the Indian batting was good but Virat Kohli played such an inning that put India in a corner and everyone saw this, in the end, the bowlers saved it."

Manjrekar said that if the bowlers had not bowled well in the death overs, India would have lost and that is why he says that a bowler should have been chosen as the Man of the Match. He said, "The Indian team was losing. South Africa had a 90 percent chance of winning. But then the tables turned and Virat Kohli's innings was saved. My Player of the Match would have been a bowler because he brought victory from the jaws of defeat and made India the winner."
