Violence continues in Manipur, shelling does not stop; Mutilated bodies of three people found in Kuki Thowai village
Manipur Violence: In the latest round of violence in ethnic conflict-hit Manipur, mutilated bodies of three youths were found after heavy firing in Kuki Thowai village of Ukhrul district on Friday. Caste clashes broke out in the northeastern state on May 3 after tribal solidarity marches were held in the hill districts to protest against the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.
The incidents of violence in the northeastern state of Manipur are not taking the name of stopping. The latest case was seen on Friday in Kuki Thowai village of Ukhrul district, where mutilated bodies of three youths were found after heavy firing.
Heavy gunfire was heard early morning from the village under Litton police station, officials said. The bodies of three youths, aged between 24 and 35, were found after a thorough search by the police in nearby villages and forest areas, he said.
Officials said that the bodies of the three men bore injury marks inflicted by a sharp knife. His limbs are also cut off.
Caste clashes broke out in the northeastern state on May 3 after a 'tribal solidarity march' was organized in the hill districts to protest against the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status. The Meiteis constitute about 53 percent of Manipur's population and live mostly in the Imphal Valley. At the same time, the population of tribal Nagas and Kukis is a little more than 40 percent. They live in hilly districts.
