India's star wrestler Vinesh Phogat has won the semi-finals of the Women's 50kg Freestyle Wrestling of the Paris Olympics 2024. She defeated Cuba's much stronger wrestler Yusneilis Guzman 5-0 in a one-sided match to secure a place in the final. This victory has confirmed another medal for India. Vinesh will now play the final on August 7. At least Vinesh's silver medal is confirmed. Earlier, India won all three medals in shooting.
The Indian female star wrestler, who came to the Paris Olympics with the aim of pocketing a medal, played brilliantly from the very first match and utilized her experience in the semis to leave behind the stronger Cuban 5-0 wrestler. Vinesh was ahead 1-0 in the first round and in the second round when the referee warned her for attacking, the Indian wrestler did not back down and took 4 points together to take a 5-0 lead. In the last one minute, opponent wrestler Yusneilis Guzman tried her best but she could not break Vinesh's intentions and also failed to get a point.
Vinesh Phogat has become the first female Indo wrestler to qualify for the final in Olympic wrestling history. Earlier, Vinesh had disappointed in Rio and Tokyo and returned to the country without a medal but this time she has ensured her medal and now she will step onto the mat on August 7 for the gold medal.
