After this, people became furious and pelted stones at the police team. A constable has been injured in the incident. Banswara Superintendent of Police Harshvardhan Agarwal told news agency PTI that tear gas shells were fired to control the situation at the central government project site in the Chhoti Sarwan area.
Police said some families, whose land has been acquired for the proposed plant, are protesting. However, they have been allotted alternate land. They are yet to shift to the land given to them demanding the setting up of a hospital in the area, police said.
According to PTI, the villagers had gathered on Friday and were protesting against the construction of a boundary wall. Police said during the protest they started pelting stones, in which a constable was injured and admitted to the district hospital. They had to use force to control the situation. The SP said additional policemen have been deployed in the area and the situation is under control.
