Two Indians murdered in Kenya: Balaji Telefilms ex-COO and his friends were missing since July
The news of the death of two Indians who went missing in Kenya in July has come to the fore. A report released by Denis Itumbi, an aide of Kenyan President William Ruto, has claimed that he was assassinated by Kenya's 'killer police'.
One of them is Zulfikar Khan, former COO of Balaji Telefilms and the other is Mohammad Zaid Sami Kidwai, an Indian citizen. In July, the two went missing after leaving a popular club in Nairobi. The two had gone to join the information and communications team of Kenyan President William Ruto's election campaign.
Itumbi has claimed that according to the evidence, the two were in a cab, which was blocked by the DCI unit. Khan, Kidwai and their taxi driver were all taken to another car and killed. He said that three days after they were kidnapped, all three were made to sit in a vehicle. Then sent to Aberdares, 150 km from the capital Nairobi.
SSU works under the DCI of Kenya. Its job is to collect intelligence about crimes. However, the SSU is also known as Kenya's killer police unit. Apart from this, according to media reports, President Ruto had also ordered the dismantling of the SSU last Saturday after the name of the Special Service Unit came up in connection with the disappearance of Indians.
Aide Itumbi posted on social media that both Zulfiqar Khan and Mohammad Zaid Sami Kidwai had helped William Ruto's presidential election campaign a lot. Zulfiqar Khan and Mohammad Zaid Sami Kidwai also visited Mombasa, Homa Bay, Mara, Nyama, and Choma Joints. He also invited me to come to India. I told him that I would definitely visit India after the elections.
The Ministry of External Affairs was in touch with the Kenyan government ever since the news of the two missing in July was received by India. Foreign Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi said that soon after getting information about the matter, an FIR has been lodged with the police there. A habeas corpus petition for the duo's missing was also filed in a Kenyan court.
Earlier, Ekta Kapoor, Joint Manager Director, of Balaji Telefilms shared a post about Khan on Instagram. It urged the authorities to investigate. Along with this, some of his friends had also written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting for help.
