Twitter returns blue ticks to several users without subscriptions: Shah Rukh Khan and Omar Abdullah included; Some dead people also got blue ticks back
On Twitter on Sunday morning returned blue verification badges to people who have more than 1 million followers. This has been claimed in some reports. Two days ago i.e. on April 21, Twitter removed the blue ticks of all those who have not subscribed to Twitter Blue. However, it is not yet clear whether users getting back the Blue Badge is a glitch or not.
Many celebrities, including cricketer MS Dhoni, and Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan, whose blue ticks disappeared from their accounts, have now started appearing again on their accounts. Apart from these, the names of some people who have died are also included in those who get Blue Tick again. These include names like Sushant Singh Rajput, Irrfan Khan, and Rishi Kapoor.
Many official media accounts have also got a blue tick back without taking subscriptions. This includes groups like AFP, New York Times. Apart from these, US Public Radio NPR and Canadian Public Broadcaster CBC have also got the tick back.
Former J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's blue tick has also returned. Abdullah said that he has not bought the blue subscription, yet he has got the blue tick. Whereas journalist Nidhi Rajdhan said that her blue tick has returned. He hasn't paid for it. Even after not taking the subscription, on clicking on the blue tick of the account of these people, the message is visible that they have taken a Twitter Blue subscription and verified the phone number.
However, Jack Dorsey, who was the co-founder of Twitter, has not got his blue tick back. While Dorsey has 6.5 million followers on Twitter. Earlier, Twitter CEO Elon Musk had said that he is personally paying for Twitter Blue subscriptions for some celebrities. These included basketball star LeBron James, Star Trek star William Shatner, and author Stephen King. All of them said that they will not buy a Blue subscription.
There are many celebrities who have paid for Blue subscriptions. These include actor Amitabh Bachchan and cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. He himself informed me about taking blue tick on Twitter. Prior to Musk's new Twitter verification policy, only notable figures could receive blue ticks. This was so that no one impersonates him on the platform, but now anyone who has money can buy blue ticks by verifying the mobile number.
Twitter owner Elon Musk announced on April 12 that the last date for removing the legacy blue checkmark is April 20. In Blue Subscription, users get to edit tweets and upload videos in 1080p i.e. HD quality, reader mode and a blue checkmark. Apart from this, priority is available in reply, mention and search.
Musk wants to strengthen Twitter financially by the end of 2023. They have modified some services like a blue subscription to increase revenue. The Blue subscription service costs Rs 900 per month for Android and iOS mobile users in India. Web users can avail Blue subscription service for Rs 650 a month.
