All airports, schools, and government offices have been closed for 24 hours in 34 states of the Dominican Republic and a red alert has been issued across the country. Haiti's Prime Minister Ariel Henry has urged his countrymen to stockpile water, food, and medicine. More than two lakh people have been kept in temporary shelters. Prior to this, 40 people had died in Haiti in June due to storms and floods.
