Total 118.99 crore telecom subscribers in the country by December 2024, Jio added the most customers

The TRAI report released on Tuesday said the total telephone subscriber base in India grew marginally to 118.99 crore in December 2024, with Jio adding the most subscribers in mobile and fixed-line segments. The total telephone subscribers in November stood at 118.71 crore, as per the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

Reliance Jio Infocomm led the list with 47.65 crore subscribers, followed by Bharti Airtel with 28.93 crore and Vodafone Idea with 12.63 crore subscribers at second and third spots.

While urban phone subscribers increased from 65.98 crore in November to 66.33 crore in December, rural subscribers decreased from 52.72 crore to 52.65 crore during the period.

The wireless subscribers increased from 114.86 crore in November 2024 to 115.06 crore in December 2024, a monthly growth rate of 0.17 percent. The wireless connection density increased to 81.67 percent at the end of December from 81.59 percent at the end of November.

Reliance Jio added 39,06,123 wireless subscribers while Bharti Airtel added 10,33,009 subscribers during the period. Vodafone Idea lost 17,15,975 wireless subscribers, according to the data. At the same time, BSNL and MTNL also lost 3,16,599 and 8,96,988 wireless subscribers respectively.

Private access service providers had 91.92 percent share of wireless subscribers while BSNL and MTNL had a market share of only 8.08 percent.
