Top seed Swiatek reaches quarterfinals of Cincinnati after defeating Marta Kostyuk
Cincinnati Open 2024: Iga Swiatek has made it to the quarterfinals of the Cincinnati Open. Swiatek has managed to maintain her record against Marta Kostyuk on the tour. Swiatek defeated the 15th ranked player Kostyuk 6-2, 6-2 in 70 minutes.
On the tour, Swiatek holds to her winning record against Marta Kostyuk Cheered opponents as Kostyuk ranked 15th, Swiatek triumphed by twice breaking serve in both sets for a one hour, ten-minute win. It was the second full game of day two following disruptions due to weather on the first day. Thursday's second-round clashes of Jessica Pegula v Karolina Muchova, Zheng Qinwen v Magdalena Frech and Caroline Wozniacki vs Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova were called off.
The Polish player has won both her professional meetings against the Ukrainian in straight sets - at Roland Garros 2021 and earlier this year this March, she got better of her opponent in Indian Wells semifinals; they also faced off as juniors back in, when Swiatek prevailed after losing a third set only. She reached the semifinals here a year ago, her second quarterfinal in Cincinnati.
Swiatek came to Cincinnati with the intention of winning the 11th WTA 1000 title of her career and the fifth WTA 1000 of this season alone. Her 10 WTA 1000 titles since the tournament's inception in 2009 are equal with Victoria Azarenka and second only to Serena Williams's 13.
