TMC spokesperson Gokhale will remain in police custody till December 8: He was arrested at the airport, the party said - taking revenge for the tweet on Morbi incident
Trinamool national spokesperson Saket Gokhale has been sent to police custody till December 8 by the court. The police were seeking his custody for three days. Gokhale was arrested at Jaipur airport on Monday night. TMC leader Derek O'Brien told the BJP that Saket Gokhale was arrested by the Gujarat Police because he had tweeted about the Morbi bridge accident. Trinamool has not given information about Gokhale's tweet.
Senior TMC leader Derek O'Brien tweeted that Saket Gokhale had taken a flight from New Delhi to Rajasthan's Jaipur on Monday night. He was arrested by Gujarat Police at Jaipur airport. Brian told that at 2 am on Tuesday morning, he called his mother and told her that the police are taking him to Ahmedabad and he will reach Ahmedabad by this afternoon. The police let him make the call for two minutes and then confiscated his phone and belongings.
On the arrest, Saket Gokhale said that it is ironic that I have been arrested for a tweet on PM's visit to Morbi after a bridge collapse, while the owner of the Orewa company, which repairs the bridge, is free.
He said that the cyber cell police of Ahmedabad has created a fake case regarding Gokhale's tweet on the Morbi bridge collapse. All this cannot silence the TMC and the opposition. BJP is taking political vendetta to another level.
Neither the BJP nor the Gujarat government has given any response in this matter so far. When PTI contacted Jaipur airport police in-charge, Digpal Singh, he said – I have no information. No one informed us.
On October 30, a bridge collapsed in Gujarat's Morbi city, killing more than 130 people. After this PM visited Morbi. TMC leader Saket tweeted about this. In this, Saket had said that 30 crores were spent on Modi's visit to Morbi.
The fact check unit of the government had recently pinned down a tweet by Gokhale in which he had shared some newspaper cutouts. It was said that it has been revealed in RTI that 30 crore rupees were spent on PM's visit to Morbi. News agency PIB tweeted and said – This claim is fake.
