Three more members of the newly formed militant outfit - the National Liberation Council of Nongkindong - were arrested in Meghalaya's West Jaintia Hills district. A senior police officer gave this information.

Meghalaya Police busted the newly formed terrorist organization by arresting 6 members of NLCN on Wednesday, said DIG Davis R Marak, a day before the first batch of the group was to leave for Nagaland to receive arms training.

Marak told PTI that three more people were arrested on Thursday in a series of operations since last night. A self-styled area commander from the East Khasi Hills district and two others from the West Jaintia Hills district were arrested.

Meanwhile, the six people arrested on Wednesday were produced before a local court here on Thursday, which remanded them to eight days' of police custody.

The National Liberation Council of Nongkindong is suspected to have links with militant organizations in Nagaland, Marak said in a statement.

Police said they have received intelligence which indicates that a new terrorist organization is being formed to carry out illegal activities.

The DIG said that acting on inputs, four top leaders of the organization and two cadres, including a woman, were arrested in the operation launched on Wednesday.

Marak said the leaders were to send the first batch of the group to Nagaland on Thursday for armed training.

A criminal case has been registered at Crime Branch Police Station, Eastern Range, Shillong under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Those arrested include the self-styled President of NLCN, the 'Commander in Chief' of NLCN, the General Secretary, and other top leaders.
