On Tuesday, the third and last ODI match of the series played between Sri Lanka and New Zealand at Pallekele Stadium was washed out due to rain. However, Sri Lanka won the three-match ODI series against New Zealand 2-0. Based on Duckworth Lewis's rule, Sri Lanka won the first ODI by 45 runs and the second ODI by three wickets against New Zealand. Rain also disrupted both of these matches.
In the third ODI match, New Zealand won the toss and chose to bat, but the initial setback recovered so well that New Zealand scored 112 runs for the fall of one wicket in 21 overs, and then rain disrupted the match. As such, the match had to be stopped. The umpires had to end the match without a decision due to intermittent rain.
New Zealand opener, Will Young scored half-century in the third and last ODI. He remained not out after scoring 56 runs with 8 attractive fours in 68 balls. Henry Nicholls, on the other hand, also batted nicely in front of Sri Lankan bowlers. He was unbeaten after scoring 46 runs with 4 fours in 51 balls. To start with, New Zealand received the first jolt in the form of Tim Robinson in the fourth over. He was out after scoring just 9 runs with 2 fours in 7 balls.
