The Center Government releases an assistance plan for irrigation and flood control at Rs 11,500 crore
During the Lok Sabha Budget Presentation, Sitharaman emphasized that the government will finance a number of projects through the Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Program and other channels
On Tuesday, the Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, unveiled a comprehensive financial support plan of Rs 11,500 crore that aims to improve irrigation projects and flood control measures in several states.
During the Lok Sabha Budget Presentation, Sitharaman emphasized that the government will finance a number of projects through the Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Program and other channels.
Among these projects are the Kosi-Mechi intra-state link and twenty other current initiatives, which include irrigation projects, barrages, and efforts to reduce river pollution. In addition, a survey and inquiry on irrigation and flood mitigation related to Kosi will be conducted.
Floods are a common occurrence in Bihar, with many of them coming from outside the nation. There are currently no plans to construct flood control buildings in Nepal, according to Sitharaman.
Assam, which struggles with yearly flooding brought on by the Brahmaputra and its non-Indian tributaries, would also get support for projects linked to flood control, the spokesperson added.
"We will provide assistance to Assam for flood management and related projects," Sitharaman said.
Referring to the significant losses that Himachal Pradesh endured in the previous year, Sitharaman declared, "Our government will provide assistance for reconstruction and rehabilitation through multilateral development assistance."
Uttarakhand, which suffered enormous losses as a result of cloudbursts and large-scale landslides, was also assured of similar assistance. Devastating floods recently occurred in Sikkim, causing misery throughout the state. The minister of finance also said that Sikkim will receive support from the government.
