Tharoor said – the wave of opposition unity is shocking: BJP is scared of Congress' Bharat Jodo Yatra

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has said that the wave of opposition unity following the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi from the Lok Sabha is welcome. This wave is shocking. Many opposition leaders have supported Rahul on this issue. On this, Tharoor said that many opposition parties have started understanding the formula of unity. Opposition parties have started realizing the truth of the saying 'united we will stand and divided we will fall'. Tharoor was talking to the news agency PTI.
Tharoor said that if I were in the party leadership, I would have encouraged smaller parties (regional parties) to become coordinators of the opposition alliance for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The former Union minister also said that if most opposition parties now find a new reason to come together and stop dividing each other's votes, it could be very difficult for the BJP to get a majority in the 2024 elections. A united opposition could be bad news for the ruling party.
The BJP won the 2019 elections with only 37 percent of the vote, but more than 60 percent of the Lok Sabha seats. The rest of the votes went to the 35 winning parties.
Referring to the Bharat Jodo Yatra of Congress, Shashi Tharoor said that BJP is scared of this yatra. For years the BJP tried to mock Rahul Gandhi, but now they have realized that he is a serious threat to them.
When asked if the Congress would be the base around which an opposition alliance could be built to take on the BJP in 2024, he said, "Fairly we are the only opposition party with a national footprint." There are about 200 seats where elections will be held. There is a direct contest between Congress and the BJP.
Asked whether he saw a similarity in Rahul Gandhi's disqualification with his grandmother, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, in the 1970s, Tharoor said there was no doubt that this "scandalous disqualification and jail term" After all, the public's sympathy is with Rahul Gandhi. He said that people feel that it is not good for democracy that a prominent leader of the main opposition party is given a jail term and does not raise his voice in Parliament.
