Kok Song and Tan Kin Lian received 15.7 percent and 13.8 percent of the votes respectively. Tharman Shanmugaratnam defeated two rivals of Chinese origin in the presidential election held for the first time since 2011. A spokesperson of the Election Commission gave this information.
