Service Extension: Tenure of DRDO Chairman Dr. Kamat extended by one year, three months service extension to CS of Bengal
The tenure of Defense Research Development Organization (DRDO) Chairman Dr. Sameer V. Kamat has been extended by one year. The Government of India on Monday approved the extension of Kamat's service. After the extension, Dr. Kamat will remain the Chairman of DRDO till 31 May 2025. Dr. Kamat is the DRDO Chairman as well as Secretary, the Department of Defense Research and Development.
Bhagwati Prasad Gopalika, the chief secretary of West Bengal, has also been granted an extension of service, in addition to the DRDO Chairman. For the next three months, Gopalika will continue to serve as Chief Secretary. This Friday was his planned retirement date. Gopalika will now hold the position of State Chief Secretary through August 31. Gopalika was an IAS officer in the 1989 batch. On December 31, 2023, Gopalika took over as Bengal's Chief Secretary following HK Dwivedi's retirement. He was employed as the Home Secretary prior to this.
A day earlier, the tenure of Army Chief General Manoj Pandey was extended by a month. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet had on Sunday approved the extension of service of General Pandey. After the extension, General Pandey will remain the Army Chief till June 30. Pandey was to retire on May 31 but before that, he was given an extension.
