Teenagers will no longer be able to create Instagram webfools. Instagram is now using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to determine if a child is trying to grow up on the app, hiding their real age. This was disclosed by Instagram's parent company, Meta, on Monday.

Meta says that it has been predicting the age of users using AI technology for some time now, but now the photo and video sharing Instagram app is "proactively" trying to find accounts that deceive others by giving a fake date of birth to hide their real age.

If the AI determines that a user is hiding their real age and is actually a teen, Instagram will automatically convert their account to a "teen account." Teen accounts have more restrictions than adult accounts.

For example, Teen accounts will be private by default. Children will only be able to receive messages from people they already connect with or follow. “Sensitive content” such as fight videos or content promoting cosmetic surgery will also be banned.

Meta also said that if a teen is active on Instagram for more than 60 minutes, he or she will be advised to take a break through a notification. Also, "sleep mode" will be active from 10 pm to 7 am, in which neither notifications nor message alerts will be received. Along with this, the auto-reply feature will also be turned on.

Meta says that their AI works on different signals, such as: What kind of content the teen interacts with. Information given in the profile. When the account was created. Based on all these signals, the AI decides whether the account owner is actually a teenager or not.
