The district administration in Karnataka's Mandya on Friday imposed prohibitory orders (Section 144) in the historic town of Srirangapatna as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order as Muslim organizations called for a celebration of Tipu Jayanti. Tipu Sultan was the ruler of the Mysore Empire in the 18th century and he fought with the British.

Tipu Sultan was the ruler of the Mysore Empire in the 18th century and he fought with the British. The tombs of Tipu Sultan and his father Hyder Ali are located in the Srirangapatna Dome. Muslim organizations and fans of Tipu Sultan have called to celebrate Tipu Jayanti and are expecting people from Mandya and Mysore cities to come and gather in Srirangapatna City.

The previous BJP government had banned the celebration of Tipu Jayanti and the current Congress government has not yet revoked that order. As a precautionary measure, prohibitory orders remain in force from 6 am to 11 pm. Officials have also been given strict orders not to allow processions and protests. The order also bans the wearing of T-shirts with objectionable photos, and slogans, the bursting of firecrackers, and the use of loudspeakers.

Siddaramaiah, during his first term, had decided to celebrate the king's birthday on November 10, 2015, as Tipu Jayanti. This caused huge controversy and led to violence and protests in the state. In 2019, former Chief Minister B.S. The Yediyurappa-led BJP government had banned the celebrations.
