Suvendu Adhikari wrote a letter to the Home Minister on Mominpur violence: Mamta government has surrendered, send Central Force to Bengal
West Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has written to Home Minister Amit Shah and Governor LA Ganesan, demanding immediate deployment of central forces in Mominpur following violence and vandalism at Ekbalpur police station. Actually, there was a dispute between two communities in Mominpur, Kolkata on the day of Eid Miladunnabi.
Following the dispute, a group of people gheraoed and vandalized the Ekbalpur police station on Sunday in protest against the violence.
"On the eve of Lakshmi Puja, there have been attacks on the Hindu community in the Khidirpur Mominpur area of Kolkata. In the violence, goons and anti-social elements vandalized many shops and bikes of Hindus," the official wrote. "These attacks are similar to those in the Uluberia area of Howrah district in June. Violence had spread throughout West Bengal, especially in Nadia and Murshidabad districts," the official wrote.
Hitting out at the Mamata government, the official said, "The government has "humbly surrendered" to those involved in the violence. He also claimed that some miscreants captured Ekbalpur police station. I suspect that, West Bengal. This time also the government will not take action against the perpetrators as they belong to a particular community. This time also this violence may spread across the state."
The incident happened on October 9, when religious flags meant for Milad-un-Nabi were torn down. After this, tension increased in Mominpur on Sunday evening. Which turned into violence. The demonstrators vandalized several vehicles and shops. To protest the violence and demand the arrest of the accused, some people reached the Ekbalpur police station and surrounded it. Some police personnel were also injured.
