Chief Justice DY Chandrachud has made a special request to all the lawyers regarding the adjournment of the cases in the Supreme Court. In fact, DY Chandrachud on Friday urged the lawyers not to ask for adjournment unless necessary, we do not want the Supreme Court to become a 'date after date court'.
This comment of the Chief Justice of India came while observing the data related to the postponement. When a bench headed by CJI Chandrachud assembled for the hearing, the court took note of the adjournment slips circulated in the months of September and October.
Urging lawyers not to seek an adjournment, Chandrachud said, "We do not want the Supreme Court to become a 'date by date court' as it defeats the purpose of expediting the case." The CJI said that this weakens the confidence of the citizens. Our court does not have a good image in front of the country. The court said that 3,688 stay slips were distributed by lawyers in the month of September-October. The bench said that today there were 178 adjournment slips.
"I request the members of the Bar not to seek adjournment unless really needed," the CJI said. The CJI said he is monitoring the filings to ensure that the period of the first hearing of cases is minimal. The court said that some cases have been mentioned to seek adjournment.
