Supreme Court rejects demand for evening courts and virtual hearing, says this

The Supreme Court dismissed a PIL on Friday that sought direction to establish evening courts and virtual hearings in district courts across the country.

While hearing the case, a bench consisting of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala, and Justice Manoj Mishra stated that due to administrative challenges, uniform instructions in this matter cannot be issued to all district courts. Kishan Chand Jain filed a PIL in this case. It was stated that virtual hearings in trial court can be conducted in stages.

On this, the bench also asked the petitioner whether he knows how many district courts are there in the country? You have demanded evening courts. Lawyers will oppose it. If we give a direction that there will be evening courts, will the lawyers argue in evening courts after arguing the whole day in regular courts? We cannot give a one-size-fits-all solution. The country is so big and complex that such directions cannot be given.''
