Star rating in vehicles: NGT notice to three central ministries, have to respond by January 10

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has requested a response from three central ministries, including the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, regarding the establishment of a star rating system for all passenger vehicles based on fuel efficiency and carbon dioxide emissions.
The green body was hearing a petition saying that the star rating system has already been implemented in developed countries as an effective mechanism to curb air pollution. The system also exists in some developing countries like Thailand, Vietnam, and Singapore. The bench said the counsel for the Ministry of Power has sought four weeks' time to respond. The tribunal said notice be issued to other respondents to file their reply through affidavit one week before the next hearing date i.e. January 10.
