Harmanpreet Kaur and her team won the only Test cricket match between the women's teams of India and South Africa by ten wickets. After this match, the two teams will play a series of three T20 matches. South Africa has completely changed its team for this series, with only one familiar face on the roster. Tryon has returned to cricket after recovering from a back injury that kept her out of action for several months. Aside from the fourth day of play in Chennai, she did a net session after arriving in India.

Delmi Tucker and Nondumiso Shangase, all-rounders in the Test and ODI squads, will return home after the Chennai Test. Mieke de Ridder, a wicketkeeper-batsman who scored 26 runs in the first two ODIs of the tour, has also been added to the T20 squad. She did not play in the team's three T20 matches against Sri Lanka in March and April of this year. South Africa Women's team interim head coach Dillon du Preez welcomed Tryon back to the squad and described the upcoming series as crucial in preparation for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup, which will be held in Bangladesh in October.

The 15-player squad selected for the T20 series will prepare for the T20 World Cup to be held in Bangladesh and the management will get some time to consider one or two options before starting final preparations. In the Men's T20 World Cup, South Africa lost to India in the final. This T20 series will start on July 5 in Chennai. The next two matches will be played in Chennai on July 7 and 9.

South Africa women's team for T20 series: Laura Wolvaardt (captain), Anneke Bosch, Tazmin Brits, Nadine de Klerk, Anneri Derksen, Mieke de Ridder, Sinalo Jafta, Marizanne Kapp, Ayabonga Khaka, Masabata Klaas, Sune Luus, Elize-Mari Marx, Nonkululeko Mlaba, Tumi Sekhukhune, Chloe Tryon.
