Sonam Wangchuk told PM Modi – Ladakh is not well

Ladakh-based social reformer Sonam Wangchuk, on whose life the film '3 Idiots' was made, has appealed to Prime Minister Modi to provide protection to Ladakh as a study claims that nearly two-thirds of the glaciers here are on the verge of extinction. Huh. Sonam has released a video, in which he is talking about Ladakh's tribes, industries and glaciers.
At the end of the video, Wangchuk said that he is going to fast for 5 days from January 26 to draw PM Modi's attention towards Ladakh. His fast will be in Khardungla at -40° temperature. Sonam has called it climate fast.
Sonam Wangchuk said that if negligence continues in Ladakh. If Ladakh is not given protection from industries, then the glaciers here will become extinct. Because there will be a shortage of water due to industries. The people of Ladakh live on a water on basis of 5 litres per day. If hundreds of industries are set up here, if mining takes place, then the glaciers will end due to dust and smoke.
Recent research by Kashmir University and other research organizations has shown that if Ladakh is not taken care of, two-thirds of the glaciers in Leh-Ladakh will disappear.
Sonam also conducted a climate fast trial on the roof of her institute Himalayan Institute of Alternatives, Ladakh, at an altitude of 11,500 feet in Phayang on Sunday night. He has shared a video of this. In which the temperature device kept near his head is showing a temperature of -16 degrees. In the video, Wangchuk is saying that it is very cold here, but I am alive.
Wangchuk, born in 1966, is a mechanical engineer and director of the Himalayan Institute of Alternatives, Ladakh (HIAL). He received the Magsaysay Award in 2018. Aamir Khan's character Punsukh Wangdu in the 2009 film 3 Idiots was influenced by Wangchuk's personality.
Wangchuk is known for forming his school, the Students Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh (SECMOL) in Ladakh. Its campus runs on solar energy. No fossil fuels are used for cooking, lighting or heating. In 1994, Wangchuk launched Operation New Hope to reform the government school system.
