India lowered import taxes on electric vehicles from businesses that commit to three years of in-country manufacturing and invested at least $500 million last month. Elon Musk, the creator of Tesla, has been attempting to join the Indian market for years, but the government requires him to pledge to support local production.

Musk met Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his June visit to the United States of America last year. The business had declared in July of last year that it was considering constructing an EV manufacturing facility in India to manufacture vehicles that would cost $24,000.
