Kedar Jadhav also played a brilliant innings. Reigning champions Mumbai made a winning start to their campaign by defeating Haryana by eight wickets. Maharashtra easily defeated Bengal.
Experienced batsman Ajinkya Rahane scored a half-century in 32 balls, as defending champions Mumbai made a great start to their campaign in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T-20 tournament by defeating Haryana by eight wickets here on Monday.
Haryana had set a target of 148 runs for Mumbai. With the help of Ajinkya Rahane's unbeaten 76 runs off 43 balls, Mumbai achieved the target with 13 balls remaining. Rahane hit four fours and three sixes in his innings.
At the same time, in another match played in Mohali, Maharashtra defeated Bengal by eight wickets with the help of Ruturaj Gaikwad's inning of 82 runs in 40 balls. Gaikwad completed his half-century in only 22 balls. He hit nine fours and five sixes in his innings.
Apart from this, captain Kedar Jadhav scored an unbeaten 40 runs on 26 balls due to which Maharashtra achieved the target of 159 runs with five overs remaining. When invited to bat first, Bengal had scored 158 runs for six wickets.
