Sinner beats Rune to reach Australian Open quarterfinals 2025

On Monday, Defending champion Jannik Sinner defeated Denmark's Holger Rune in the fourth round of the Australian Open to make it to the quarterfinals. In this match, Italy's Sinner made full use of his physical and mental abilities amid a tough challenge and defeated Denmark's Holger Rune 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 to make it to the next round.
The first set was won in 33 minutes by the Italian. Power and precision got the better of the world number 13 Rune. Only once was Rune up 2-0 on Sinner's serve in this set. Rune eventually loosened up to win the second set 6-3 and level the third-round contest at 1-1.
Even though Rune returned, Sinner did not give up as he managed to firm things up in the third set. The Italian first saved a few breakpoints and then cashed in on Rune's mistakes to break Dane's serve and take hold of the match. Rune also received treatment for an injury in his thigh, yet Sinner didn't lose his focus.
The fourth set proved to be decisive. After a brief interruption due to a broken net, Sinner picked up the pace, broke Rune's serve twice, and then won the match easily. In the quarter-finals, Sinner will face the winner of the match between Australia's Alex de Minaur and American player Alex Michelson.
