According to a report by news agency PTI, the central government has made a new announcement to curb activities like fraud. According to this new announcement, wholesale connections have also been completely banned.
Giving information in this regard, the Union Minister has said that the government has disconnected 52 lakh mobile connections. Apart from this, 67,000 SIM dealers have been blacklisted.
Giving information, Ashwini Vaishnav said that since May 2023, 300 FIRs have been registered against SIM card dealers.
Referring to WhatsApp, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has said that WhatsApp has blocked 66,000 accounts. WhatsApp has identified and blogged accounts that were involved in fraudulent activities.
Ashwini Vaishnav said, "Now we have made police verification of SIM dealers mandatory to curb fraud. Not only this, a fine of Rs 10 lakh will be imposed on such SIM dealers if the norms are violated."
Ashwini Vaishnav said that 10 lakh SIM dealers will be given enough time for police verification. Telecom Ministry is going to introduce a new concept of commercial connection instead of banning wholesale connections.
To reduce the cases of fraud, the government has also made KYC mandatory. Ashwini Vaishnav has said that the KYC of the businesses, and KYC of the person taking the SIM will also be done.
