School children will meet champions on National Sports Day: Celebration of PM Modi's 'Meet the Champion' initiative, which will be organized in 26 schools across the country
National Sports Day is being celebrated across the country today i.e. on 29th August. On this occasion, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) will celebrate PM Narendra Modi's 'Meet the Champion' initiative, due to which the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) will organize this initiative in 26 schools across the country.
Several prominent athletes like Commonwealth Games (CWG) and World Championship gold medalist Nikhat Zareen, Paralympic and CWG medalist Bhavna Patel, Tokyo Olympics and CWG medalist Manpreet Singh will take part in the initiative.
'Meet the Champion' is a unique school visit campaign, which was started by Olympic Gold Medalist Neeraj Chopra in December last year. Now, this campaign has reached different parts of the country. During the school visit, champion athletes share their experiences, balanced diet, and fitness tips with students. Also, let's talk about some important life lessons.
The Sports Authority of India (SAI) has inducted new athletes, who participated in the recently concluded Commonwealth Games (CWG) and World Championships, on the occasion of National Sports Day. The theme of this year's National Sports Day is 'Sports for an Inclusive and Healthy Society'.
SAI will also celebrate this year's National Sports Day as part of the Fit India campaign. These sports events will be organized at different levels among people of different ages. This includes both professional and recreational programs.
Union Minister Anurag Thakur, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Nishith Pramanik will interact virtually with some sports and fitness personalities from Fit India on Monday evening to discuss the importance of fitness and sports in India.
India celebrates the birthday of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand Ji as National Sports Day. Today is the 120th birthday of Major Dhyan Chand. Under his captaincy, the Indian hockey team won three consecutive gold medals in the Olympics. National Sports Day was first celebrated on 29 August 2012.
