Sam Altman launches new image generation tool, calls it unique

OpenAI has launched a new image generation feature for ChatGPT by integrating its most advanced visual model into GPT-4o. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman introduced it on social media, describing the technology as "incredible and unique."

He said, "When I saw the initial pictures generated by this model, I could not believe that these were actually created by AI." Altman also said that this tool will give users more freedom of creative expression, while OpenAI will ensure that it creates objectionable content only within a limited range.

He further said, "People will create some amazing things using this tool and there will also be some things that some people may find offensive. Our aim is to ensure that this tool does not create objectionable content unless the user explicitly wants and that too within reasonable limits."

OpenAI explained in its blog post that GPT-4o's new image generation model is capable of rendering text more accurately, understanding prompts better, and creating similar images consistently. The company says that this tool will help in various applications such as game development, educational content creation, and historical search.

Earlier AI image generation models would fail to understand complex details and relationships among objects properly, but GPT-4o has made huge progress in this area. Now it is able to correctly represent 10-20 different objects in a single image. In addition, the tool also supports editing images with natural conversation, allowing easy character design and other changes.

This image generation feature is currently available to ChatGPT's Plus, Pro, Team, and Free users, while Enterprise and Education users will also get access to this feature soon. OpenAI also confirmed that developers will also get access to this feature through an API within weeks. This new image generation tool can prove to be a big step for OpenAI, providing users with more freedom for AI-powered creativity.
