Indian star shuttler Saina Nehwal has revealed that she suffers from arthritis. She will have to make a decision about her future before the end of the year. Nehwal, who won a bronze medal for India at the 2012 London Olympics, last appeared at the Singapore Open over a year ago. Then she was eliminated during the first round.

Nehwal has indicated that she is in the last phase of her career. "The knee is not very good. I have arthritis. My cartilage has deteriorated. It is very difficult to push for eight-nine hours," Nehwal told shooter Gagan Narang in the podcast 'House of Glory'.

"How will you challenge the best players in the world in such a situation? I think I have to accept it somewhere. Because two hours of training is not enough to play with the highest level players and get good results," she said.

Saina Nehwal revealed that she is thinking about retirement. She said, "I am also thinking about retirement. It will be sad because it is like a job done by a normal person. Obviously, a player's career is always short. I started at the age of 9. I will be 35 next year.

Saina Nehwal said, "I have also had a long career and I am very proud of that. I have broken my body to a great extent. I am happy with what I have done and given my all. I will assess how I feel by the end of this year. Competing in the Olympics is a childhood dream. You prepare for years to reach that level. So, at times it hurts a lot when you realize that you won't be able to achieve it."
