Dmitry Shugaev, head of the Russian Federal Service for Military-Technological Cooperation, said that India will get the S-400 Triumf anti-aircraft missile systems on schedule. India bought the S-400 air defense system in 2018 for $5.4 billion.
Russia said on Monday that it will supply the S-400 anti-aircraft system to India on schedule. The Russian official's remarks came after Indian officials expressed apprehensions that Ukraine being embroiled in war could delay the supply of arms and equipment.
India is the world's largest arms importer. Its weapons have traditionally still relied mostly on Russian technology. Dmitry Shugaev, head of the Russian Federal Service for Military-Technological Cooperation, said that India will get the S-400 Triumf anti-aircraft missile systems on schedule. India bought the S-400 air defense system in 2018 for $5.4 billion. Of these, three have been supplied, while two are yet to be delivered.
According to Interfax, the supply process will be completed by the end of 2024. 72 missiles can be launched simultaneously from the S-400. It is an updated version of the S-300 anti-aircraft family. The Indian Air Force had said in March that the Ukraine war could impact crucial defense supplies from Russia. Along with the S-400, India is currently buying French fighter jets, Israeli drones, and American jet engines.
According to data from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, imports of $18.3 billion from 2017 included $8.5 billion from Russia alone.
