WhatsApp, owned by American company Meta, has been fined 4 million rubles (about Rs 41,42,000) by Russia for not removing the banned content from the platform. This fine has been imposed on the company by the Moscow court.
After the war with Ukraine, WhatsApp's parent company Meta Platforms Inc was declared an extremist organization by Russia and banned. However, due to being popular in Russia, WhatsApp was not banned by Russia. Now action has been taken on this popular messaging app from Russia.
A report by Russia's state news agency RIA said that WhatsApp has been fined for failing to remove banned content from its platform. The case against WhatsApp in a Moscow court was filed by Russian regulator Roskomnadzor.
After the start of the military campaign in Ukraine by Russia, a strict stand is being adopted towards American companies. So far Russia has taken action on Google, Wikipedia, and Discot.
WhatsApp is going to make major changes in the message menu of its Android app. iOS is also preparing for changes. In the upcoming new menu, five options will be given to the users. These would be Delete, Forward, Reply, Keep, and Info.
Apart from this, new features like editing messages, the new duration for disappearing messages, pinning messages within chats and groups, view once audio feature and audio features will be available to users soon.
