The BJP won a historic victory during the Lok Sabha elections in Thrissur, Kerala. The controversy over the defeat of party leader K Muralidharan led to a brawl in the Thrissur District Congress Committee (DCC) office.
On Saturday, a FIR was filed against Jose Vallur, the head of the Thrissur District Congress Committee, and 19 other members. Sajeevan Kuriachira, DCC secretary, made the complaint that resulted in this FIR. Kuriachira claims in his lawsuit that he was beaten up by Vallur and his followers at the office on Friday.
Kuriachira is regarded close to Muralidharan, who blamed the party's failure in Thrissur on former MPs TN Prathapan and Vallur. Muralidharan's defeat sparked a debate within the party's district unit.
On Wednesday, posters were displayed outside the Thrissur DCC office, criticising the district authorities for the surprise setback. Suresh Gopi of the BJP won the Lok Sabha election from Thrissur by more than 74,000 votes. This is the first time that the lotus has bloomed in Kerala. Muralidharan had come third.
