Indian Navy has launched the most advanced military chopper on INS Vikrant. It is known as the MH-60 Romeo helicopter. The Navy earlier used Sea King Chopper. Now Romeo will be used in its place.
The Navy has tweeted the video of Romeo's landing on INS Vikrant. Also wrote in the caption – This helicopter is a milestone for us.
Romeo is made by the American company Lockheed Martin. India has bought 24 helicopters for $905 million. Former US President Donald Trump visited India in February 2020, during which PM Modi signed the deal to buy them. America handed over two Romeos to India for the first time in July 2022. All 24 choppers will be delivered to India by 2025.
There are many such sensors and radars on Romeo, which give information about every attack of the enemy. 3 to 4 crew members are required to fly it. It is powered by two General Electric turboshaft engines, which generate 1410x2 kW power at takeoff. It can cover a distance of up to 830 kilometers at a time. It can fly at an altitude of 12 thousand feet.
In addition to anti-submarine, the MH-60R Seahawk helicopter, popularly known as Romeo is effective in surveillance, information, target search and rescue, gunfire, and logistic support. Apart from destroying enemy submarines, these helicopters will prove to be effective in chasing ships and in sea search operations.
With the help of these helicopters, India's security at the domestic level will be strengthened and it will be helped in dealing with regional enemies. According to the US, India will have no problem in inducting these helicopters into the Navy. It is currently deployed in the US Navy as an anti-submarine and anti-surface weapon.
