Former Indian veteran batsman Sunil Gavaskar has advised Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who failed in both innings after coming in the middle order in the Adelaide Test, that Rohit should open in the next matches.

I believe that there was a partnership of 201 runs between Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul in the first Test. But after this, there was a long gap, and Rohit batted in the middle order. I am assuming that India will bat very well in the next Test. In such a situation, Rohit should bat with the new ball, that is, open the innings, because that is his natural game. However, former Australian opener Matthew Hayden contradicted him saying, "Look, what I saw in Perth showed that KL Rahul has a good technique. He was playing very well in Perth, so I am not sure such a shift mid-series should be worked upon."
