The next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is going to be very special for many Indian fans. It is believed that this will be the last IPL season of former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Dhoni, who has retired from all formats of international cricket, will also say goodbye to professional cricket after IPL 2023. Recently, when Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma was asked about this, he gave a brilliant answer.
In the pre-season press conference of Mumbai Indians, Rohit said, Dhoni is so fit that he can play for 2-3 more seasons. Rohit further said in the press conference, I have been hearing for the last 2-3 years that Mahendra Singh Dhoni will have his last season. I think he is fit to play for a few more seasons.
Dhoni has scored 4,978 runs in 234 IPL matches at an average of 39.2 and a strike rate of 135.2. This includes 24 fifties. In IPL 2022, Dhoni scored 232 runs in 14 matches but CSK could not reach the playoffs.
Dhoni led his team to the finals in the year 2008, where they lost to Rajasthan Royals (RR). In the year 2009 season, Dhoni made Chennai Super Kings (CSK) the champion. So far, under the captaincy of Dhoni, Chennai Super Kings have reached the finals 5 times. Dhoni made the team champion four times. He is one of the most successful captains of IPL.
The first match of the IPL 2023 season will be played on 31 March. The first match will be played on May 28 between defending champions Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings.
