Roger Federer of Switzerland, winner of 20 Grand Slams, is considered one of the greatest tennis players in history. 42-year-old Federer recently received an honorary doctorate degree at Dartmouth College in America. During this, he gave a speech to the youth for about 25 minutes and told them the mantra of success. Federer said that the word effortless is a myth and whatever he is today, it is not just due to talent, but it has taken years of hard work.

Federer said ease is a myth. He said I am saying this as a person who has heard this word a lot. People used to say that my game was effortless. Most of the time, he meant it as a compliment but there were times when he got really angry when people said he barely broke a sweat when the truth was that I had to put in a lot of hard work.

I worked really hard, learned a lot, and came a long way to get to the small tennis court. The truth is that a tennis court is very small and the world is much bigger than that. When I started, I knew that tennis could show me the world but it could never be the world. I never forgot my roots and where I came from.

Yes, talent has its own importance but there is a much bigger definition of it. It is not gifted, it is the result of constant hard work. Self-confidence is also not given out of nowhere but it is earned. However, sometimes despite working hard, you lose because tennis is brutal. You have to become adept at recovering from tough moments because for me that is the mark of a champion.

Tennis talent is frequently defined as having a great forehand and racket speed. But, for me, discipline in life means skill. The ability to remain calm and confident in oneself is a talent. Talent is the ability to persevere and effectively manage your life and yourself.

Perfectionism is impossible in tennis. I played 1,526 singles matches and won just 80% of them. Whatever sport you choose in life, you will lose. Whether it's a point, a match, or a season, whatever profession you have, things will happen, and life will have ups and downs. You can't always win, so it's necessary to learn how to accept defeat.

Whatever sport you play, give it your best. Focus on your shots, play without any pressure, and do everything that you can. Whatever you do in life, give it your best.
