Ricky Ponting slammed Rishabh Pant's team, said - I felt embarrassed
Ricky Ponting, KKR vs DC, IPL 2024: Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting has reprimanded his team, terming the 106-run defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders as unacceptable and disappointing. He said that throwing 17 wides is beyond comprehension. Due to this, time was not completed and even the fielders had to be included in the end.
Head coach Ricky Ponting expressed his embarrassment at his team's performance in the first half of the game following the Delhi Capitals' (DC) 106-run loss to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). On Wednesday night at the ACA-VDCA Stadium, Sunil Narine (85), Angkrish Raghuvanshi (54), Andre Russell (41) and Rinku Singh (26) all put on impressive innings. KKR lost seven wickets and scored 272 runs based on these innings.
Ponting said, "It is very difficult to assess this defeat right now. I was almost embarrassed by the first half of the match. We gave so many runs and bowled 17 wides. It took us two hours to even bowl our overs, so we were two overs behind. which meant that the guys bowling the last two overs had to bowl with only four fielders outside the circle."
Ponting said, 'There were a lot of things that happened in this match that were unacceptable and there are a lot of things that we will talk about as a group that need to be fixed immediately to move forward in the competition.' The team was also disappointed that captain Rishabh Pant did not seek a review on appeals against Narine and KKR captain Shreyas Iyer, despite replays showing that they could have been out. Also, some flaws were seen in Pant's captaincy, which also included not using Akshar Patel properly.
Not only this, Pant has been fined Rs 24 lakh for maintaining a slow over rate in Wednesday's match, which is his second offence in the tournament.
