Rescue operation resumed in Wayanad after a day's break, 229 people dead so far

Earlier on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the disaster-affected Mundakkai and Choorlamala areas of Wayanad. The search operation was stopped on Friday afternoon in view of the PM's visit.
The massive search operation resumed on Sunday in the landslide-affected area of Wayanad, after yesterday's break. Rescue workers are on a hunt for missing people whose whereabouts remain a secret even after this devastating natural disaster.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had visited the disaster-affected Mundakkai and Choorlamala areas earlier on Saturday. View of the PM visit, the search operation was stopped on Friday afternoon. In fact, this entire area was handed over to the SPG in view of the PM's security.
He has visited the landslide-affected area on Saturday. PM Modi has assured that the Government of India will leave no stone unturned in helping Kerala with relief and rehabilitation. He described this tragedy as a fierce form of nature.
The other individuals involved in rescue operations, excluding police and fire service, are volunteers from different service and youth organizations, survivors of past landslides, and families of the victims.
Within moments of the landslide tragedy, the central government pressed into action over 1,200 personnel from the Departments of the Army, Air Force, Navy, and NDRF, besides fire services and civil defense, for the rescue and relief operations at the site.
According to Kerala government data, 229 people have died in the landslide, while more than 130 people are still missing.
