Union Minister Rajiv Chandrashekhar on Thursday rejected the report published in an American newspaper regarding the government's stand regarding the alert of hacking Apple's phone. This report claims that Indian officials had demanded that Apple help reduce the political impact of the hack alert issued in October. Chandrashekhar described this report as based on 'half-baked' facts and pure imagination.
The Minister of State for IT and Electronics posted on Twitter that Apple has been asked to cooperate in the investigation with government agency CERT-In (Indian Computer Emergency Response Team).
Investigation is ongoing in this regard. The minister said the response of the Government of India, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and me regarding the incident is very clear. Apple has to clarify whether their devices are insecure and what are the reasons for these alerts.
It is noteworthy that the Washington Post has claimed in the report that in October, an alert was sent to the opposition leaders in India on Apple phones that their mobile phones had been hacked.
After this Indian officials called Apple's Indian representatives and asked the company to help reduce the political impact of alert notifications. Many opposition leaders had claimed that they had received a message from Apple that there could be a government-sponsored attack on their phones.
