India-Canada Tension: Amidst the ongoing tension between India and Canada, Foreign Minister Jaishankar said that relations between the two countries are going through a difficult phase. He said our problems are with certain parts of Canadian politics. Jaishankar said that if we see progress in the security of our diplomats in Canada, we would like to resume issuing visas there.
There has been tension in diplomatic relations between India and Canada. Canada has also taken out 41 of its diplomats from India. Amidst all this, the statement of Foreign Minister S Jaishankar has come to light.
Foreign Minister Jaishankar said that relations between India and Canada are currently going through difficult times. He said our problems are with certain parts of Canadian politics. Jaishankar said that if we see progress in the security of our diplomats in Canada, we would like to resume issuing visas there.
On reducing Canada's diplomatic presence in India, the Foreign Minister said the Vienna Convention provided too much diplomatic parity. He said that we called for equality because we were concerned about the continued interference in our affairs by Canadian personnel.
In fact, late on Friday night, America and Britain expressed concern over the decision to remove Canadian diplomats from India. Both countries said that India should follow the Vienna Agreement. At the same time, India is firm on its stand.
It is noteworthy that pro-Khalistan terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar was shot dead in Canada. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused India of being involved in Nijjar's murder, following which relations between the two countries soured.
